The Revolution 2020
A Capital Campaign

Executive Artistic Directors Note:

The global pandemic paused us. In that pause, we were able to truly see the broken systems and abusive power structures that fuel our world and how it disproportionately affects people of color. Our unity was disrupted, our lives halted and our communities shaken. We’ve all lost and felt a lot. But, what feels clear to me, is: there is no going back.

This time has demanded a total revamp of our existence. Our “new normal” can’t and shouldn’t be fueled by the way we used to operate. At all. I believe this is true around our relationships, businesses, governmental structures, economic systems, our social engagements and especially education. So, giving that there is no going back or undoing any of this, we are afforded the opportunity to first, grieve what we’ve lost. To grieve the illusion that what we had before this “pause” was worth settling for. Now, we must acknowledge that "the opposite of war isn’t peace, it’s creation". And what we create, MUST be made out of a completely different fabric. A completely different tapestry of possibility. Made to protect and give voice to the stories, things and people that have been muted and abused for so long. The Underdog.  At the foundation of that creation must be the things that it hurt the most to lose at our most vulnerable time: unity & authentic connection.

This global crisis has rocked the foundation of the Performing Arts community, yet Renegade Theatre Company has emerged like a Phoenix from the ashes. Sure, we are new here and are in our growth stages, but still, we are not immune to the financial struggles that arts programs are experiencing. We have reached the phase of our development where large community commitment and involvement is of the utmost importance and have kicked of this Capital Campaign, that we are titling "The Revolution" to help us walk into our first year safe and secure, so  that we may use all of our energy changing lives and reshaping the minds and hearts of the most vulnerable and disadvantage people on this earth: the youth.

Many companies have shut their doors and have taken an intermission. But we are more than just a company, we're a movement. One day, the intermission will pass, and Renegade Theatre Company wants to sing its show stopping number at the TOP of the next act. We will make Act 2 even better for our community if we can have your help.

This fundraising effort ensures that RTC  has a solid foundation, as we walk into a bright yet,  uncertain future. Funds raised will support staff salaries, the development of all of our programming, our scholarship program, and most importantly, help secure our new home in the Lauderhill community that includes a 100-seat versatile Black Box Theatre, 2 dance/rehearsal studios, classrooms, a teen hangout lounge and administrative offices. Your help will help provide us the resources to begin work on our stages, in our classrooms, and in our community, when the time is right.

There is no healing our world. Healing is not what we need. Everyday, we see the lessening of the voices and importance of black and brown bodies. We need to put forth change! And we have the power to do the changing. We need to be granted a voice in our community. Help us be that voice. Help us impact students and artists, especially artists of color. We strive to provide a safe haven for students and artists of all colors and abilities to talk, commune, create, relate, recharge, learn, grow, mentor, entertain, cry, laugh, discover and through the arts and art education, become strong citizen artists and community activists who are fired up and ready to change the world. I firmly believe there will be a paradigm shift if we use every ounce of our energy to make people of color MATTER in every single avenue that we individually have influence in. And providing a place where youths for all racial and ethnic backgrounds evenly get to experience life and empathy with and for each other....in my opinion, is great start. Unity is how we can change the world. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and all donations are tax-deductible.

Together, we can make certain that great stories always have a home here and that we revitalize the voice of the underdog.
